The de Havilland Hornet was a British twin-engine fighter aircraft designed by de Havilland Aircraft Company. It was a follow-on to the highly successful de Havilland Mosquito, and like that aircraft, made extensive use of wood in its construction. The Hornet was ordered into production in 1 940 as a fast bomber, but delays in its development meant that it did not enter service until 1946, after the end of World War II. The Hornet served with the Royal Air Force (RAF) in a number of roles, including fighter-bomber, night fighter, and reconnaissance aircraft. It was also operated by the Royal Navy's Fleet Air Arm as a carrier-borne fighter. The Hornet was retired from RAF service in 1956.
The Oxford Diecast D.H.103 Hornet F3 WB880 RAF 72HOR001 is a detailed and accurate model of a significant British aircraft. It would be a great addition to the collection of any aviation enthusiast.
