The Mexican Guardia Nacional (National Guard) previously operated a fleet of three Boeing 727-200 aircraft. These were the last Boeing 727s in military service in Latin America, and among the last of their kind flying anywhere in the world.

The Guardia Nacional received the planes in 2016 after they were retired from the Mexican Air Force (FAM). The aircraft were used for troop and cargo transportation missions. However, in December 2023, the Guardia Nacional was forced to resume using the Boeing 727s due to a lack of available transport aircraft. This situation arose because the planned revival of a state-owned airline, Mexicana de Aviación, resulted in the Mexican Air Force having to cede some of its newer Boeing 737s to the new civilian carrier.

The use of the aging Boeing 727s is seen as a setback for the Mexican military's transport capabilities. The 727s are less fuel-efficient and require more maintenance than more modern aircraft.
