The Corgi AA36705 is a 1/72 scale diecast model of the Junkers Ju 88 A-1 light bomber operated by Luftgeschwader 1 (LG 1) of Lehrgeschwader III (LG 3) during the Battle of France in 1940.
The Junkers Ju 88 was a German all-metal twin-engine bomber and reconnaissance aircraft that was widely used by the Luftwaffe (German Air Force) during World War II. The Ju 88 was a versatile aircraft that was used in a variety of roles, including dive bombing, level bombing, night fighting, torpedo bombing, and reconnaissance.
The Ju 88 A-1 was the first production variant of the Ju 88, and it was powered by two Junkers Jumo 211A-1 engines. The Ju 88 A-1 was armed with one 20 mm cannon, four 7.92 mm machine guns, and could carry up to 1,450 kg (3,200 lb) of bombs.
Luftgeschwader 1 (LG 1) was a bomber wing of the Luftwaffe that was formed in 1934. LG 1 participated in the Spanish Civil War and the invasion of Poland in 1939. In 1940, LG 1 was part of Luftflotte 2 (Air Fleet 2) that supported the German invasion of France.
Lehrgeschwader III (LG 3) was a training unit of the Luftwaffe that was formed in 1936. LG 3 also served as a combat unit during the early years of World War II. In 1940, LG 3 was part of Luftflotte 2 and participated in the Battle of France.
The Corgi AA36705 model is a highly detailed and accurate replica of the Ju 88 A-1. The model features opening bomb bay doors, a rotating dorsal gun turret, and movable landing gear. The model is also decorated with the markings of LG 1 and the swastika insignia of the Luftwaffe.
The Corgi AA36705 is a great collector's item for anyone interested in World War II history or aviation. It is also a great way to learn more about the Junkers Ju 88, one of the most important aircraft of the war.
