The Junkers Ju 87, known as the Stuka, was a German dive bomber used extensively during World War II. Its distinctive gull-wing design and fixed landing gear made it recognizable. The Stuka was famous for its precise bombing, approaching targets at steep angles to enhance accuracy and reduce the risk of interception.
Equipped with a wailing siren called the "Jericho Trumpet," it created an scarey presence during dives. The Stuka played a key role in Blitzkrieg tactics (lightining war) in the war's early years, striking hard at ground forces and infrastructure. However, as the conflict continued, it faced increasing challenges from more advanced fighter planes, leading to a failure in its long term effectiveness.
